Mammoth Lakes is located at the base of the spectacular Sierra Nevada mountain range in Eastern California, and is the home of Mammoth Mountain- one of the biggest ski resorts in the United States featuring 3,500 skiable acres. Mammoth Lakes and surrounding Mono County are also a front row seat to a massive volcanic caldera, and signs that a violent past created the tallest mountain range in the continental United States are everywhere, such as the split-in-half peaks above Convict Lake.
Mammoth Lakes is an X-Games kind of place, with downhill mountain biking on Mammoth Mountain’s trails in the summer and skiing or snowboarding the thousands of acres of deep fluffy powder in the winter. There is the huge Volcom Brothers skate park right in town, the Lakes Basin area that is perfect for paddle boarding or hiking, not to mention the trails up and along the base of the Sherwin Range and Mammoth Rock for a challenging morning jog.
This tour also includes some extremely fragile places such as Devil’s Postpile National Monument, Rainbow Falls, Bodie Ghost Town, Hot Creek Preserve, Mono Lake, and Mammoth Rock among others. Additionally we will be adding a winter segment to the tour in December. This tour will be featured as part of a RegalEarth Mapping system on the Mammoth Lakes Tourism website at: http:// www.visitmammoth.com
